Prior to 1908, people were able to move freely in either direction across the international boundary between the United States and Canada. No record exists of these border crossings. The following sites may be useful to those researching migrating ancestors on both sides of the border:
Migrations.org - Chippewa County at Migrations.org
Site dedicated to tracking the migration of families from one point to another. Includes all 50 U.S. atates as well as a number of foreign countries.
Immigration Records at the National Archives (NARA)
Ellis Island/Port of New York Records
Very comprehensive site for those researching ancestors who immigrated to Canada.
Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild
Ships and Passenger Lists Resources (Cyndi's List)
Migration Routes, Roads and Trails (Cyndi's List)
Immigration and Naturalization Resources (Cyndi's List)
